According to the Vice-rector for International Cooperation and Innovations Baubek Somzhurek, “The UN Development Goals adopted in 2015 are called upon to play a huge role in solving global problems of humanity. This is a truly unique rating, which reflects the contribution of universities to the sustainable development of mankind. Central Asia was in this ranking. This has been proven to be the right path for the development of our university. ”
The inclusion in these rankings is in itself a great achievement and it marks ENU out as a global pioneer – demonstrating commitment not just to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals through its teaching, research and knowledge transfer, but also to embodying the goals in the institution’s internal practices, policies and procedures and providing verifiable evidence of your activities.
This impact rating is the first to measure the success of global universities in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and more than 450 institutions from 76 countries across six continents have taken part. The data collected from universities will be combined with data from Elsevier to produce the tables.
Phil Baty, chief knowledge officer at THE, said that universities’ reaction to the THE University Impact Rankings has been “amazing”. “What’s really exciting is that we’ve seen prestigious research universities that perform well in the world rankings take part and we’ve seen institutions that have never before engaged in global rankings – particularly universities from developing countries that are not research-intensive – participate as well to demonstrate that they have an impact.”
The Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings is the world’s first global attempt to document evidence of universities’ impact on society, rather than just research and teaching performance. Metrics include universities’ policies on academic freedom, their use of secure employment contracts and their share of senior female academic staff and are based on 11 of the 17 UN SDGs.
